Thank you for this post, such a very important topic! I see so many kids that think the world revolves around them and it is no wonder our society is so self centered. I pray parents will begin to open their eyes and make changes.

One thing I have experienced is the older generation that may have grown up with "nothing," then they want to give their kids and grandkids what they did not have, so they don't "miss out" like their parents or grandparents did. This makes me so upset I do not even know where to begin! We are trying to live more simply these days, but it is very difficult when others are trying to "help" by pouring gifts on the kids! How do you say no without sounding ungrateful? My kids are starting to expect the numerous gifts they receive at special occasions, which now include Easter and Valentine's Day! So frustrating!

It is so nice to see other parents who want to teach their children that they are not the center of the universe! =)

Oh I see this so much and it is so sad, and annoying too. I know some homes where when I visit, we all just spend so much time watching what the kids are doing- the visit revolves around them. I get pretty fed up with it. Thank you for your honest post, so true!

I love this Katie! Our culture is so child focused now and I think that is making very selfish children. Children who feel entitled that they don't have to do chores and the world revolves around them...well of course we know in the Lord that this is not true. Great food for thought...actually being intentional about NOT making every day about them and super special. Thanks for this post today :)

To keep it clean for showing our house, we wiped down the glass shower stall, and that helped TREMENDOUSLY. You can extend your cleanings that way :)

I LOVE this post! It's like you took my thoughts and blogged about it. It's such an encouragement too! My boys know when I've woken up first to be with the Lord and when I haven't (not only because of the obvious half asleep breakfast making & yawning, but because of my attitude that day!)
Thanks for this! Oh and hubby & I recently splurged and got that 'teach me time' clock for our kids and we L.O.V.E. it! So worth it and it's been keeping them in their beds until 7am every morning for the last 2 months!

I'm right there with you! We've never done soccer (or any other spot) for that very reason. Family time is much more important and we are just not willing to sacrifice it at the alter of organized sports. We've found that our kids are learning the values of good sportsmanship, determination and being a team player in our home and through interactions with friends and activities that the whole family can be involved in.

My 2 older kids do soccer, swimming, AWANAS, and baseball for two months all at the same time too. I can tell anyone about being busy with activities. It is hard and stressful and every season I tell myself not again next time. But then we do it again. However, we do have family time during all this sports chaos. I have my younger kids with me in tow. It gives me uninterrupted time with them to read books, play on the playground, meet new friends, especially cheer on their brothers. If we were at home this precious time would most likely be absorbed by cleaning and other household tasks. We don't need as much commitments but we make the best of the ones that we do.
